Janelle and I took the day to visit the Nymphenburg Palace. It was the summer residence for the Bavarian Emperors for 4 generations. The main building was built and gifted to the Queen on the birth of her first son and heir to the throne. It went from simple summer residence, a small building, to an entire complex and grounds with isolated buildings around the grounds like Versailles. (A lot of the plans were influenced by time spent there. There were even plans to make the fountains more like the ones at Versailles). It was beautiful and while it's no where near the state it had once been in, it was still very stunning. One of the things I loved about it was that the grounds are open to the public. Everywhere we walked there were people out running or walking their dogs as well as tourists and we even ran into a photography class. I estimated that besides exploring the actually buildings, we walked at least 7 miles that day. It was fun to be just me and Janelle again for the day. We haven't done that for a while... usually it's me, her and my kids. The day was a little overcast, so a lot of the pictures I took were harder to catch, but it was fun.
A couple of fun facts, Ludwig II was born here. One of the Queens here loved children. She birthed 7 and enjoyed having them around her so much that she had child sized tables and chairs in her room and work areas so that she could have her kids around her all the time.
They only turn on the back and front fountains for a little while each day. We were lucky enough to see them both.
This one confused me. In the garden, there were statues with mythological figures paired up with female and male. This one wasn't one I was familiar with. An older lady with a castle on her head. There was a painting on the ceiling in the main living area too. I tried googling it and came up empty.
There were geese and swans all over. It was kind of fun to see how common place swans were in Europe. In Utah, they're a novelty.
