Interlacken is a little Swiss town in between two lakes. It was a little colder because of the water all around, but very pretty. We did less of the historic things here, and mostly focused on the natural elements. The night we got there, we went shopping for winter clothes, Jer found a model train store, and groceries. The AirBnB was amazing. Definitely in the top three that we stayed in. We ate dinner at a Turkish pizza place. Definitely yummy, but not something that you'd usually think to put together. Interlaken is VERY touristy. They seemed like the Park City of Switzerland. There were fliers for skydiving, kayaking, rock climbing, biking, etc... all over.
Historically, Interlaken is also home to a monastery built in the 1100s that housed both men and women that was destroyed to build government buildings in the 1700s that are still used today. They were also well known for printing textiles and watchmaking before tourism became their main focus in the 1800s. People began coming to take in mountain air and they created a spa for the tourists. In the 1900s they built a railway up into the mountain and to the highest village in Europe on Jungfrau where they boast the highest shops and post office in Europe. It's often called the Top of Europe. Mount Timpanogos is actually a little taller that Jungfrau, but you start at a higher elevation than you do at Jungfrau from the bottom to the top. Both World Wars were hard on this area financially.
And yes, everywhere we went in Europe was more humid and yes, I do have slight curls to my hair in the humidity. I'm definitely not used to it. I guess if I want Janelle's hair, I need to move somewhere more humid.
Salon Nelly.... for Nellie.
