Innsbruck, Austria was one of our stops. I'm posting a little out of order because I wanted to get these pictures to my parents. Innsbruck is known now because they've hosted the winter Olympics twice, the Paraolympics twice and the Youth Olympics once. In the old town, the buildings were all built about 1200s. They have a University and they were important politically because they were the best place to cross the Alps from and a Count settled there and made it a cultural center.
We got there late in the day. It was rainy and we were tired. We found the AirBnB, got settled and almost didn't go out. We decided to go find food. They had a yummy gluten free Italian restaurant. Then we just kept walking. We found old town and several monuments.
They also had a art museum that would have been fun to make time for, but it was closed by the time we got in and we didn't have time the next morning before we left.
This was a monument to those that fought and fell during WWI.
I love this man.
We saw some fun mosaics that they used to spice up an otherwise boring business building.
A Holocaust memorial.
It was interesting to see the new sculptures and art right up next to old fountains and buildings.
There were dragons and roosters all over the place in their art.
Sign for a hair salon.
This was the entrance into old town.
This was my favorite square. Open, and each building very individual. Some had flowers, some painted Baroque style, some Renaissance style...
Jer+bakery= Happy Jer. This was the overlook we stopped at that had a good view of the city, the ski jump ramp and the white museum behind Jer was named for a famous skier I believe.
