Hawaii Thursday

These pictures all got kind of jumbled as I was uploading them, but Thursday we went surfing in Kihei for the morning and went to Ulua beach.  It was a pretty beach but not my favorite.  Our favorite beach game came out of it though.  They all decided that they liked playing crack the egg in the waves.  Everyone did spectacularly with surfing.  Everyone except Sam got up on their first try.  Seth decided he didn't like the water going up his nose, so he quit rather early on.  Sam spent the first bit getting the hang of the board and then got up every time after that.

Seth decided that Ulua beach was too windy and really didn't want to go in the water, so I settled in with him on the beach.  I convinced him to take the water camera and try to go look at some pools.  We did that for a bit.  We didn't find much in the pools, but he soon decided that wrestling with Dad in the waves would be funner and he dove in.  I stayed on the beach and kept an eye on our stuff.  I didn't like how many people were on this particular beach.

I think Evelyn in flippers is one of my favorite things this year.

Crack the egg.

Evelyn up on the first try.  She really had great balance.  She only fell if someone ran into her from behind.  She got kind of bossy though and started telling Jer how to do it.  You could see how much fun she was having though!

There was this one and one that was completely red in the same size and shape.

Ada got some close ups of some birds for Grandma Robertson to help us identify.

Ada's first time up!  That long boarding definitely paid off.

Jer's first time up.  He did awesome!  He said it's really not too hard.  Mostly is learning the timing of getting onto the wave.

Seth's first and really only time up.  He did great, then decided that the dismount part wasn't worth the surfing part.

Ada was so sweet with him.  She would help him get back out to where the starting group was and she hung onto his board for him while waiting for her turn.

Sam's first time up!  He was a little hesitant going it, but once he was in he was pretty solid.

Jer and the kids playing with the underwater camera at the rocks at Ulua beach.

We had sushi at Miso phat.  Most of the sushi was okay, but their TNT roll was spectacular!  Sam had a really fun time trying to pick up slimy poke with his chopsticks.

We found these really cool trees at the park next to the beach too.  We stopped to take a picture of the sunset and ended up climbing trees.

We took the opportunity to play with the panorama mode on my phone too.

We went out for gelato after swimming too.  It was really yummy.  Sam has decided that there are dairy free ice creams that he likes and Evelyn tried the taro gelato.  I tried the avocado one.  All of them were really good.

This is such a fun family.  They're sweet and playful.  It's fun to get to know them and try not to freeze in the cold rain!  It was...
