The third day of Lisbon, I woke up with a pit in my stomach. I just couldn't make myself feel excited about the day's outing. We'd already put this one of by a day. My feet were a little swollen and I just decided to stay at the Airbnb for the day and catch up on washing all the clothes and clean the place up a little bit. Stick my feet up occasionally and hope that the swelling would go away. I washed and dried 5 loads of laundry with a hair dryer. It felt good to be prepared for the second half of the trip and to have a day to relax. Jer took the kids to Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra. He said that it was the only thing open in the area even though we had planned to go to three different things that day over there. It was also very hot and TONS of stairs. I don't do well with those combined. I can usually do with one or the other, but the heat makes my ankles swell and that makes it hard to walk.... and add only stairs to that and I would have been very miserable. I think God was telling me to sit this one out so that I'd be okay for the next week and a half. Jer said it was built in the 1800s by a crazy king that liked the romantic tales and fantasies. Everything was built to wander through. No real purpose.... just exercise and imagination.
Because it was the only thing open right then, there was an hour long line to get in. The kids were cute and started playing games to pass the time. Well done my kids!
Romeo and Juliet balcony. Ada just finished reading Romeo and Juliet.
Initiation well
They were so tired afterwards that they took a tuk tuk to the taxi station and then caught a taxi to the train station. They realized that the taxi probably wasn't legit when they kept telling them that they were going the long way to avoid police.
When they got back, we went to the restaurant next door to the Airbnb. It was a fun experience. They looked stunned to have tourists there. They're not in a tourist area. They helped us choose some seafoods to try, including crab, oysters, sea snails, razorfish, etc... Everyone agrees... crab and razorfish was good. Oysters and sea snails weren't. Then we had some steak and chorizo. It was good and so fun. It's a family run place and we had fun talking to the waitress, whose husband is the cook.
