The second day in Lisbon, we were thouroughly touristy. We listed out several of the local things to do and the kids voted on the military museum and St George's castle. And of course, sushi while we're next to the ocean. The shrimp was amazing! We drove to the area and parked. Then we walked most of the rest of the day. There was construction in front of the military museum, so we had to walk a long way around, but it was pretty cool. The parts I found the most interesting were the WWI things. We hear a lot about WWII in the US, but not as much about WWI. For Spain and Portugal, that was THE great war. After the museum, we were kind of tired so Jer flagged us a Tuk-tuk. That was fun. He took us on a whirlwind tour of look out spots, a monastery where the nuns and monks weren't allowed to see each other so they had two hallways everywhere. Then he dropped us off at the castle on the hill. It's a reconstruction of a medieval castle using the plans of the original castle that had been there. It was cool. The Tomar castle was cooler, but this one had peacocks everywhere and came in close second.
This was in my pictures. I'm not sure which kid spotted this.... probably Ada.
This is a "sister" statue to the one in Rio de Janeiro.
The one request that Ada had for the city was these. We saw the pina colada stands the day before, but we had already eaten.... so Ada asked if we could get some before we left Lisbon. We did. We got some to share, but they were delicious.
The pistol with the sword... hybrid weapons.
This one had a fun story, so I took a picture of the plaque too.
They didn't have any signs saying not to touch... so we got in trouble after this picture.
This WWI sculpture was done entirely with the lost wax method. It was already interesting, but now I'm trying to figure out how many drains they had in and if they used sand or a cast, etc...
There was an artist installation in the museum while we were there. It wasn't running, but there were random pieces of plexiglass everywhere with projectors that were supposed to projects pictures from the artists' latest trip. Sheesh. I consider myself an artist that loves installation pieces, but this one was silly. It didn't show any skill of any sort and was more of a vacation log for a narcissistic individual than anything else.
I got the Dragon roll. It ended up being and actual dragon. That was fun. And it was covered in sweet potato strings. Very tasty.
Hole in the wall sushi that was so delicious. You could tell that they weren't used to a 6 person table. We took up two of their tables and they struggled getting the food to us in a reasonable order.... but it was so good.
For dinner, we tried this pizza place. It was fun and they provided blankets. I didn't think it was cold at all, but all my cuddle buddies loved the blankets.
