Thanksgiving....
What can I say? It was fun and we ate a lot! First we went to my parents house to help cook and set up because my mom and sisters were working or out of town... so it was my dad, Uncle Reid, and me... I will say that I love Reid's cooking. Yummy stuffing! My mom got home in time for good food and for Uncle Lee and his family (Trista, Braxton and Davin) to come. Grandma Wilcox was there too. (I think she would have preferred to be at home. She was tired and rather bewildered at whatever was going on. She even told me not to take pictures of her because they were just pictures of someone that was happier where they were.) Then we cleaned up our big mess and talked for hours... before I took a small nap and we left for the Robertson's. We had Jay, Becca and her fam, John and his fam, Emily and her fam, Amy and her fam, and Jim and Judy all there... it was fun and the kids were noisily content to be with each other. I do have to admit that after all the work and noise of the day I was really ticked off when Jer's sister came into the room... tells everyone off for not helping mom and dad with the dishes... and then promptly leaves to plan her black Friday all night shopping trip and leaving her two brothers and their two pregnant wives to clean up after the 30 some odd people that had eaten. I wouldn't have minded as much her just coming in and saying, "Hey guys, help out..." if she had helped out too... oh well. And I usually don't mind cleaning up at the Robertsons... but I had just cooked and cleaned up Thanksgiving at the Wilcox's... I was kind of tired of it. So I got grumpy. But all in all... it was fun to hang out with the families that are our dear friends and remember all the things that we are thankful for... including dishwashers and not having to cook over camp fires. Thanks all for a great Thanksgiving!

Rhees Family
This is such a fun family. They're sweet and playful. It's fun to get to know them and try not to freeze in the cold rain! It was...

So, our family night yesterday was all about getting ready for Christmas. And guess what. The kids were so excited about going and getting...

You wouldn't have known that she had come really early and helped cook and had washed all the china, all my already dirty dishes and all the cooking dishes. She helped cook, set tables and clean, so she had been working all day and was out of time to plan her shopping trip, which included buying things for several others who didn't want to be up all night. I didn't think that she told everyone off, she just said that we were not to be doing the dishes. I really appreciate all of the help you offered and gave yesterday and today--and I know you were very tired. You are such a wonderful blessing to all of us. Hope this helps you to see where she was coming from. Love ya!
I'm not still mad... it was more of an annoyed at the time... in the situation. And the blog post was not meant to be offensive... my blog is my journal... I'm imperfect, I get mad... but I want to remember that I'm imperfect. I'm not going to weed out things that happened just so that I can look perfect.
Oh, I think you must have misunderstood her--because she actually didn't come in getting really mad--she just said that we all needed to pitch in and she had actually already cleaned up a fair amount of it. She wasn't mad or rude about it. She then went in and cleaned up a lot more and then she sat down at my insistence and started planning black Friday shopping. Oh, and she often cleans up after everyone-our family is HORRIBLE at cleaning up after themselves. So really she was just trying to get others to pitch in and not have it all left to Mom and Dad as it often is.
Again...I don't really care... it was a "I'm mad at the time" thing. I'm a person that gets mad... stays mad for about a minute and then gets over it. I've seen you guys get mad like that at family things... I guess I'm just the only one dumb enough to blog about it.
I think I need to clarify one more thing.... people keep blowing this out of proportion... When she came in and said that everyone needed to be helping... the people that were in the room were Diane, who was 7 months along and having contractions... her brother Seth who never helps anyways because any time he tries to he gets told that he's a guest and doesn't need to... me who had just made, prepared for and cleaned up after one Thanksgiving dinner with only the help of two other people. Jim and Judy who were already cleaning the dishes and the younger grandkids that I wouldn't trust to either clean the dishes or move the tables and chairs out of the way and back downstairs.
That is why I was mad. I was tired... Diane was tired... Amy came to help after nursing her baby, but where was everyone else? I never said that she didn't do anything that day... just that why was she telling everyone else to work when she was planning a shopping trip.
Diane alwasys helps no matter what is happening with her. And for the first two years of our marriage we were yard crew, special projects crew, entertainment crew... after moving the weight sets twice, pruning, canning, mowing, building, putting on a new roof (yes, some people got paid... but Jer and I donated our time for that one), cleaning... even cleaning the toy room before I had kids... I was wondering why no one else bothered to help with these projects. Then there was that whole slew of emails going around that we needed to help out more and I just laughed. We neglect our own yard to take care of the projects down there. Jim is Jer's best friend... so I encourage his help and I know it makes Jer happy to help his parents... but after all this I felt like I could sit and visit with Diane without feeling guilty about not doing the dishes.
