I did it... I trained for the last 6 months so that I could do this weekend. I finished the Bear Lake Half Marathon time... admittedly it took me the same amount of time as it takes the marathoners, but I still did it. We got to Bear Lake on Thursday night... it was cold and rainy, but I was ready to camp out and be out of reach of computers and cell phones for a couple of days. Friday morning was cold but dry... we sanded and painted 4 out of the 8 benches around the camp fire... and then it started raining and Sammy kept crawling out into it... then he'd cry that he was wet. Jer and I decided to drive to Garden City to get more sanding belts and see if they had more clothes for Sammy... our short little excursion took us almost 6 hours... as we made stops into stores, ate dinner, picked up running packets, and decided that we'd drive up to Montepilier to get clothes for our wet boy... where Ada promptly pooped in her clothes an hour away from where her other clothes were sitting at our camp site... So with a new outfit for Ada, new pants for Sammy and a couple of new sweatshirts for the two of them (and a very angry Mom) we headed back to our camp. Grandma and Grandpa had come with the whole company in tow but they had decided that they didn't want to camp in the rain... and since they didn't want to have to come back to pick up kids early in the morning before Jer and I ran our race they took them with them. I think Ada at least had a blast because she keeps talking about the swimming pool at the hotel they stayed at and Sammy didn't have to crawl in the water anymore.
In the morning Jer, Robyn and I dropped off our van in Garden City and rode the bus back to the starting line...which ironically enough was only 3 miles from the cabin... we were blessed with chilly but dry weather... my mom's cousin Debbie and her husband Walt drove along the route to find us and take pictures... that was fun to see them! and about mile 10 my heart started racing and I couldn't breath... which happened last time I ran 10 miles. Weird. I walked for a minute to get it to calm down and then started running again... within the next mile it was doing it again... so I had to walk the last 2 and a little more of the race. but I finished nonetheless... two really cool things about the cold and stormy weather though. The people at the cabin said that they were worried about us because it had been raining on them all morning, but we didn't get rained on at all really... even though we ran right in front of the cabin. And the other thing is that the lake was gorgeous! It was a kind of turqouise color the whole time we were there. (Unfortunately there was lots to do and I didn't get a chance to really get out there and take many pictures.) I'd do it again... but I think I need to figure out why my heart starts racing at about mile 10 first so that I don't end up having to get rushed to the hospital or anything!

Way to go! I am so proud of you. That is quite a feat. I'm so glad you didn't get rained on either, that would have been miserable. I can't believe you're already considering another one, I'm not sure I'm quite there yet and it's been 2 months! I hope you get your heart thing figured out too.
YAY! It was a lot of fun! Thanks for running that with me!
Rosanne, I am SOOO proud of you! way to freakin' go. I mean, I'm proud when Em and Jay and Jer run - but they have done it so many times now that it's like, eh yeh another half marathon. But when it's your first one, holy cow! it's like the best feeling in the world. it's such a great accomplishment! you are amazing.
Thanks guys! It was fun and I did LOVE having Jer with me the whole time... poor guy... used to running fast and ended up basically walking by me while I ran my super slow pace. To think (whistfully) that I used to have somewhere between a 8-9 minute pace... sigh...
Congratualtions. I am glad you did it.
