Ada had an accident the other day at my mom's house.  I cleaned her up and sent her to the kitchen while I washed my hands.  I put a chair in the middle of the kitchen and put her on it in time out... but by that time I needed to remind her that why she was in time out. "Why did mommy put you in time out Ada?" "Um... " "You peed in your panties." "Oh... Dang."

Playing outside at Grandma's

I'm so glad that it's getting warmer outside... the kids are ready for something different.  And yes, Sammy is wearing a girlie coat... that was an accident but he doesn't care at this point.

I did it...

I actually did it!  After three years of off and on work, I finally finished my quilt.  Ta-da!

Cute Primary Prayer

I'm one of the CTR 6 Primary teachers in our ward.  I loved today's closing prayer in our classroom.  I asked for a volunteer and suddenly it was quiter than it had been for the last two hours.... cricket... then one of the boys looks at me matter of factly and says,"I'll do it.  But I'll need some help because I don't know how." The boy next to him says,"I'll help." We all folded our arms and with one boys mouth to the others ear we said a prayer.

Nice.... and how true

New milestones

Sammy started crawling... it's so exciting... especially where my back has really been ready for him to start being mobile... but the funny thing about it is that he cries the whole time... He went across my entire bedroom floor... but he just bawled the whole time.  He loves lentils and doesn't like sweet potatoes anymore.

Ada started going potty in the potty again... finally... she's still having a hard time getting there in time to poop in the potty, but at least I don't have to clean her/change her 5 times a day.  I just made sure that it was not easier for her to pee and get cleaned up instead of going to the bathroom in the first place and she decided that it wasn't worth it.

I'm starting my training for the half marathon... I am already running, but my training schedule starts next week.  This will be interesting because my last run... my SI Joint is out again (I'm pretty sure that it's mostly because I carry Sammy on my left side for a total of about 8-10 hours a day) and my ankle was all swollen by the time I was done because of it.  Oh well... at least it's at the beginning instead of right before the race.

And I really do count this as a milestone... whether it's a good one or not... My house is a complete disaster and for the first time I'm resigned to it instead of angry or agitated.  I'm too busy to keep it clean.  I clean up the best I can and everything gets cleaned at least once a week, but never at the same time so my house never really looks clean.  I've decided that as long as I know that it was cleaned just yesterday and that Jer will help me out on Saturday then I won't stress about it.  Speaking of which... I need to go start the laundry before Sammy wakes up.

New pictures

So here are some pictures from the last two weeks... One is my kids and the little girl I watch. One is decorating Valentines Day cookies.  And the rest are my cute family.

These are cousins Ruth, Kate and Aubrey

The only one missing here is Joseph, but I think he was napping

Just to feel like myself again

I just wanted to write a post to remind me that I haven't always been "the mom" and that I love it and I'm a better mom because of all the neat opportunities I've had in life.  Looking back, I'm 28 years old and there's so much that I've done... and still tons that I want to do.

I married the most wonderful man in the world.
I gave birth to and am raising two bright and beautiful kids.
I speak English, Spanish, ASL, and very limited Swahili.
I've taught music lessons in Spanish and English for about 7 years now.
I play the piano and love it... and play the cello and organ a little bit though I'd love to take lessons again someday.
My sister and I biked and river rafted 100 km down the Danube River in Germany when I was 15.
I lived in and taught school in Kenya and acted as tour guide assistant while on Safari to the Serengeti (Tanzania/Kenya) and got to travel to Zanzibar while school was out.
I served a mission to Ecuador and loved going back to visit.
In 2000, before I left for my mission I competed in foil (Sport Fencing)... and ranked 3rd in the Utah/Idaho/Colorado area... and 50th at the Junior Olympics.
I was asked to do a solo in the Tahitian dance and was one of 10 that were asked to participate in the poi ball dances... (long and short)... that the Multicultural Club put together in HS.
I've backpacked through Europe twice visiting Germany, Austria, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.  I'd like to visit Italy, Spain, Egypt, China, Peru and New Zealand one day.
I graduated from BYU with a BA in Visual Arts. I love to paint, use my graphic designing and photography... but most of all I love to sculpt in stone.  It's hard to do with my time... I don't get a whole lot of chances for that with my kids running around my feet.  A chisel, hammer and 2 year old don't mix.  And yes, my husband gives me rocks for my birthday... I love it!
I was the first sculpture intern that BYU had had in years.
I also have a minor in Spanish which I still use today.
I am pretty good at finances and really enjoy doing taxes.
I hate cleaning my house and cooking, but I do it anyway because I love my family.
I've had a job since I was 15, but have been helping my dad on construction jobs since I was 8.  I actually really enjoy doing it most of the time.  I love to drywall, mud and build decks.  My favorite time working with him was when we were landscaping our own backyard... we were moving a pile of rocks and mud and it started pouring rain.  It was fun to be out in the rain with a shovel in hand.  I'm not too fond of house painting or the smell of the blue glue you use for pbc pipe.

Well, this morning I had been planning on talking about how I love my new vacuum and how it picked up stuff that my other one wouldn't... Then I had one of the I'd rather not be your mom right now moments that have been happening more and more often... Don't worry, I'll be fine and the kids will too... it's just hard not to be mad at them for being little kids sometimes.   Sammy wants to crawl so bad that it's frustrating to him to feel like he can't do it... so he cries.  Ada doesn't get what she wants, so she cries and gets sent to bed.  I fold all the laundry for Ada to unfold half of it, climb in a basket and insist on a ride around the room.  Ada goes downstairs to get a game and comes up with pee all the way down both legs and starts running around the kitchen... so not only do I get to clean up her, but also her pee foot prints across the kitchen and go downstairs to find out that there's a whole walking path of pee because she kept going while she was peeing... so I got to shampoo the toy room and family room while Ada sat crying in time out.  I finish doing the dishes, turn around and see that Ada's gotten out all of her toys from the toy drawer in the kitchen and spred them all over in the room I had just picked up.  I think I feel a lot like Heaven Father did when He said, "If you love me keep my commandments."  Ada refused to help me clean up her mess and insists that I do it for her, then she turns around and says ,"I love you mommy." I'm not so sure...  I let her play with her toys, but why is it that she never wants to play with them when they're already on the floor but she HAS to play with them if I just picked them up?

Thank Goodness For Tax Refunds

So I'm really excited that we got a tax refund this year... with it we were able to pay off my piano (finally!), start putting our savings back together, Jer got a new phone, and I got a new vacuum... the one we had we got as a present for our wedding... it's worked okay for 5 years but we've had to replace the brush once, and the belt 4 times... we really should've replaced the three filters and the latch on the back that holds one of the filters in place... but too late!  I'm excited to have one that doesn't whistle when you turn it on and says that it can reach all the stairs without having to carry the whole vacuum up a stair at a time... I haven't had a chance to try that out yet, but in a house with toddlers and a baby it won't be long before I have plenty of opportunities to use it.  It says that it specializes in pet hair... I wonder if that'll work for my hair too.  I shed quite a bit.  I'm hoping this one will last at least another 5 years... but wishful thinking wants me to try stretching it out to 10.

Now is there any way to get a refund big enough next year to pay off our van loan?  (I really doubt we'd be able to get even half of it! Our taxes are going to suck next year... DANG!)

The only times that I regret not having a working tv...  General Conference and the Olympics... General Conference isn't too bad, you can listen to it on the radio or we visit parents houses to watch sessions of it... but the Olympics... it's not like I can camp out at my parents house for a month to watch things that aren't important to my salvation.  Oh well.

I can't even imagine...

Our bishop had a hard blow this week.  Sunday morning his 4 year old granddaughter died... and yesterday her 15 month old sibling did.  I can't even imagine the sadness of having one child die let alone the two youngest.  It sounds like the family had had the house sprayed for mice... had let it air out and then come home to sleep.  I don't know if they slept through the night or if something happened during the night but when they woke up their daughter was dead and their baby was sick and they had to rush the baby to primary childrens.  It had been a couple days since we heard anything so I thought that the baby would be okay, but yesterday we heard that it had died earlier in the day but they didn't want to tell anyone until they had a chance to tell the 7 and 5 year olds.  I can't imagine the comfort needed, but I know they'll recieve it... they're a good family.

Me and my Peeps: Portraits

Me and my Peeps: Portraits

So it's been so long that I started this one as a draft... and so it's only showing up in my history, not in my new posts so here is a link to my "new" post.

Link to nienie

I read a blog about a strong woman that loves her family.  I really liked this post though... especially since the last weeks worth of posts have been very hard to read.  Painful. Sad.  But this post is really what it's all about.

Today was a day of many firsts.  I officially only have one calling which is the first time in 7 years that I've had less than 3 or 4.  Sammy stood and held the back of the church bench for almost 30 mins before he decided that he was done.  Ada was brought to me for misbehaving in Nursery for the first time ever... it's really weird for her so there must have been something going on.  She's been in Nursery since she was 16 months old, and except for the occasional dirty diaper or wet panties we've never had anyone bring her to us because of fits or misc... They said that she was fighting with all the other kids... hmm.  And I've been asked to do an extended family picture.  That's a first for me other than at weddings.  I've done a family with 6 kids and one with 8 kids... but this is the first portrait shoot for me with 8 adults and 18 kids.  And it's not even that warm outside yet... but I guess we'll figure it out.  Ada was really cute at lunch time though... she got her stack of crakers and went to sit by Sammy because she wanted to 'share'... no she didn't share, but it looks like she understands that sharing is meant for you and someone else instead of just you.

Warning... Potty talk.

So Ada was sitting on the potty and she always tells me how big her poop is.  "Mommy, big poops." or "Mommy, little poops."  This time she said, "Mommy, little poops... oohhh cute."

cute kid

I do have to say that I have a cute boy!  Here are some pictures that took today while our friends were over to play... hence... they are only of him... which is rare since every time I take out my camera Ada says, "Take a picture of me mommy!"  He is cute though...
